I Am Legend

An Uncanny Hour - Episode Eleven
Welcome to episode eleven of our Patreon exclusive podcast documentary series, An Uncanny Hour hosted by Robin Ince.

Richard Matheson’s novel I Am Legend is a 1954 genre defining work. It is a post-apocalyptic horror tale that set the table for much modern zombie and vampire fiction that followed and, in what seems very timely in 2021, it helped popularise the trope of a worldwide apocalypse due to disease. It’s been turned into four films over the years, Last Man on Earth, The Omenga Man, I am Legend and I am Omega although all of them fail to capture the point of the novel in differing ways.

Robin Ince talks about the novel, it’s place in history and the various adaptations with:

• Richard Matheson fan, comedian and author Charlie Higson
• Artist Dave McKean who has also illustrated the new Folio edition of I am Legend
• Film critic, horror expert and writer Kim Newman
• Science Fiction author and cell biologist Dr Jenny Rohn
• Film Critic and Reviewer Linda Marric
• Comedian and podcaster Iszi Lawrence

We hope you enjoy. The next episode will look at the science fiction film Silent Running and features interviews with Mark Kermode and Stewart Lee.
