Wife on Earth - Series 2 Announcementfrom the mind of Joanna Neary
Emboldened by the success of the first series of her book-based podcast – as well as a mention in the ‘To Do List’ of the Upper Lowing Bugle – repressed housewife Celia Jesson returns with her dependable husband Fred and friends for a highly anticipated second series.
Unfortunately, Celia and her team of regulars are unable to use the local library in Lower Upping due to refurbishment so she has had to assemble everyone and socially distance them in her front room for the latest action packed series. Mrs Coil returns with Fred and Centre Partin’ Martin for a play warning listeners about the dangers of Identity Theft, and Celia bakes scones for Martin’s nephew Adam ‘TinTin’ Clutterbuck, aged 8. Tackling such weighty issues as World History, Diet Scandals and Buying Bread, Celia finds herself in a series of fantastical romances featuring Robbie Williams and the Supermarket Bloke from the Seasonal Aisle.
Anarchic, original and charming character comedy written by Joanna Neary (Ideal, R4’s The Art Of Now- Inbox and R3’s The Verb) and Joseph Nixon (The Shark Is Broken), with characters played by Joanna Neary, Alastair Kerr, Ben Crompton, Julia Cloughley-Sneddon, Pad McLean and Adam Clutterbuck and special guests including George Egg, Hedluv Cornish Rapper, Martin Austwick, David Branwell and Chris Sloman
“ENCAPSULATES A LOST AGE OF REPRESSED PASSION, SNOBBERY and LUMPY MARMALADE” Evening Standard
Joanna Neary originally created her hugely popular character, Celia, in 1997 when a Sussex radio station asked if she could impersonate Celia Johnson in Brief Encounter for an advert for a fee of £10. “I can do pretty much anything for ten pounds” said Jo, rising to the challenge, and after finding it a very fun voice to do, went on develop the character, writing numerous Celia inspired monologues. Celia went on to perform as part of Cosmic Shambles 9 Lessons and Carols for Curious People, the Channel 4 series Dogface, BBC Shuffle, ITV’s Comedy Cuts and Radio 3’s The Verb. After filming a pilot of a chat show with Celia and her Husband Fred for the BBC, Joanna went on to present a critically acclaimed full length Celia show – FaceFul Of Issues – at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Series Two starts on June 17th wherever you get podcasts. Here’s some helpful links just in case. You can listen right here on the CSN, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud or plug the RSS feed into any podcast app.
